The outcome of the rowing meeting today is as follows, having taken into account the availability of members who would like to compete and can commit to training we will be attending Troon’s regatta on the 8th of June, The Comet Festival in Port Glasgow on the 22nd of June (RWSABC Regatta will form part of the festival events, a function back at the club at night is proposed) The world Championships in Ullapool from the 9th of July, the Sail and Oar festival on Cumbrae on the 10-11 of August, North Berwick regatta on the 24-25 of August, Queensferry regatta on the 31st of August. Along with the regatta entries the Saturday morning squad plan a long row up the Clyde towards Dumbarton / River leven on the 24th of August as this date best suits the tides, anyone wanting to come along on this this will be more than welcome. More details on the regatta events can be found on the Scottish Coastal Rowing website if you would like to go along.

In addition to the regatta discussions we noted the need to increase the training opportunities for everyone competing at the World Championships, again the biggest obstacle to training being availability and time constraints. To try and find a compromise and increase the training opportunities we have agreed that every Saturday Morning starting on the 4th of May from 9.15 will be a specific 2K World Championship training session for everyone committed to attending the Championships. There will be a race practice times recording form in the racing shed where on return from the water the COX should add the fastest time over the course, the date, the names and position of the crew when the time was set. The Tuesday and Thursday Nights from 6.30 continue to be club nights. Thursday night Rowing continues to be open to people who would like to come along and give fixed seat give rowing a go.

If you have any questions regarding the worlds or would like compete / take part in any of the above please contact myself or Adam Graham via the club website.

Regards

Alex Paterson

Alec Paterson has called a meeting of all members interested in racing St.Ayles Skiffs through this year. Meeting will be held on Sunday afternoon at 3pm in the Clubhouse.

Primary topic for conversation will be attendance at the St. Ayles Skiff World Championships in Ullapool in July

Last year the Club hosted an event to raise funds for MS Research that was so busy more chairs had to be brought up from the boat sheds. You can read all about it at the following webpage.

Well the party is back. On Friday 3rd May there will be various musicians, local and from Glasgow, who will be performing. There will also be a fundraising raffle on the night.

The Club was the venue for a British Rowing accredited coaches course held over the last two weekends. A tutor from Welsh Rowing ran the course on behalf of the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association. It was attended by members of coastal rowing clubs from Mid-Argyll, Portsoy, Pittenweem, Cockenzie & Port Seton and Galgael.

All the participants passed this initial phase of thier course and return to thier clubs to prepare for an external assessment in the coming months. Locally GalGael plan to start rowing on the Clyde from Kelvin Harbour, at the new Transport Museum. Thier first planned coaching outing will be this Wednesday.
