Dear Sir, Madam,

Last year we were kayaking in the stunning Summer Isles. Unfortunately, we noticed quiet some (fishermen) debris at the beaches.
We have decided to organise a beach clean up in the Summer Isles in May this year. My query is whether your organisation/members are interested in supporting this beach clean up.

One of the beaches will be on the mainland, in front of Port A Bhaigh Campsite, Altandhu, Achiltibuie, Ullapool, IV26 2YR, Tel: 01854 622339. Some beaches can only be reached by canoe or kayak. The owner of the campsite, David Last, welcomes our initiative and has offered that all participants can camp at his campsite free of charge. (At the opposite end of the campsite is a restaurant which serves mouthwatering fresh fish for very reasonable prices).

Suggested date beach clean up: Saturday May 3, 2014.

We look forward to hearing your reply.

Kind regards,

Karin M. Meyer

Course Update
Earlier this month the GGP team nipped up Scotland for a wee site visit. After what has been quite a mild winter, conditions were a little foggy around Loch Locky and there was thin ice covering the surface of the canals before Fort Augustus which we expect to dissipate come March. The GGP team are monitoring the weather conditions and will be giving daily updates on our website in week running up to the event.
Accreditation information is now up on the website for those already registered with information about the start times – click here.

Live Streaming
We’re excited to be able to keep all those who can’t make it up to the highlands for this year’s event up to date with live (as close as technology permits!) updates on entrants’s sector times, photos and videos as they happen. Full details of how you can stay in touch with the action will be released in the coming weeks but for now we’re running the Twitter Tag #GGP2014 – join in!

Volunteer Positions at GGP
So far we’ve had a great reaction to our appeal for volunteers but we’re still looking! We are hoping to widen our ties within the communities that the event touches and for local people to get involved, helping contribute to the smooth running of the event on the day. We have a number of volunteer opportunities available including:
- Registration point volunteers – this involves helping set up accreditation, registration of participants, handing out information packs, answering any questions regarding the event.
- Marshalls – this role involves being the eyes and ears of the event. You will be marshalling along the course route, noting down boat timings at check points and liaising with race control as well as most importantly, offering encouragement and support to entrants as they pass through
- Finish point volunteers – this involves helping to set up the finish point, helping with the catering station, handing out blankets, updating leader boards, providing information for competitors and their support crews

These positions are required on Saturday 22nd March (some of the starting positions will happen through the early hours and a limited number of helpers may be needed on the Friday afternoon). We may also have a couple of extra positions for Sunday March 23rd for those who are looking to come for the whole weekend.

We need people with a love of the great outdoors, people who are motivational and friendly. Our volunteers are those who help make this unique event an enjoyable experience for competitors, spectators and everyone who is helping in the organisation. If you would like to volunteer please get in touch with lex@greatglenpaddle.co.uk

Finally, we want to thank Scottish Canals, Homecoming Scotland, Scottish Kayaks and Paddles, Explore Highland and SUPskin for their support of GGP 2014!
Many thanks for your continued support,

Team GGP
