Despite the terrible weather conditions, last Saturday was another great success. The beach, lower and upper hards were thoroughly cleared of litter. A huge amount of the beach, that had been swept to the East end by the storms, was returned to its rightful place also.

Anyone who missed the opportunity to help Saturday need not worry, your chance is here. This Saturday it is our intention to empty each shed, hose them down, brush them out and return the boats/equipment ready for use during the season. Anyone with private items of equipment stored in the sheds in encouraged to attend on Saturday, or identify thier equipment prior to then, so that it is retained when the equipment is returned following cleaning.

New blood joins committee

The Club’s committee are delighted to announce that a couple of members have volunteered to take on two crucial convener’s roles on committee.

Billy Carroll has accepted the role of Sailing Convener and Steven McQueen has accepted the role of Social Convener, both these roles have been vacant for a long time. We trust that having someone in place to act as a focus for activity and communication with other conveners, and the Club’s committee, will have a positive effect.

Both of them would invite assistance with thier roles from any enthusiastic members.

Yesterday was a great success with a good cross section of the membership in attendance. There were juniors and thier parents, relatively new members and seasoned members. Thanks are due to them all as the beach, lower & upper hards are far tidier. There is a large pile of scrap awaiting collection tomorrow.

Following the success of this work party, more are being organised for the next couple of Saturday mornings. Anyone who missed the opportunity to help yesterday need not worry, your chance is here.

• This coming Saturday morning at 11:00 the primary intention is to pick up litter from all of the external areas of the club and beach.

Following the recent storms, and in advance of the Inspection of Boats, there is a work party being organised on Saturday at 10:00 for a couple of hours.

All volunteers are welcome.

The primary intention is to tidy and clean the beach, lower hard standing & dinghy park.

There are a number of boat trailers, and some boats, that are in a very poor state of repair. If you are the owner of one of these and want to retain it, we would ask that you clearly identify it in some way before Saturday morning. Otherwise it will be treated as abandoned and disposed of.

UKCC Level 2 Fixed Seat Rowing Coaches Course, RWSABC, April

On behalf of British Rowing and The Scottish Coastal Rowing Association we will be hosting a UKCC Level 2 Fixed Seat Rowing Coaches Course on the following two weekends in April:

7th/8th April & 14th/15th April

Please note that the first weekend is the Easter Weekend.

The cost will be £ 335.00/person. This is for the course only and does not include accommodation (if required) or the pre-requisite qualifications such as personal affiliation to British Rowing, First Aid or Safeguarding & Protecting Children courses.

There will probably be only 12 places available. Anyone interested should get in touch with myself asap, either via adam_graham@hotmail.com or rowing@rwsabc.com

RYA Seamanship Course, Cumbrae

Chris Nichol of SportScotland National Centre (Cumbrae) has kindly agreed to give SCRA affiliated clubs a substantial discount on the online RYA Seamanship course. The content of the course (with the possible exception of “engine maintainance”) is very relevant to what we do, and can only help the skills of our rowers and coxswains.
