Juniors trip to the River Orchy

The juniors undertook their first white water trip on the River Orchy on 8th June 2014.

A group of 5 young kayakers supported by experienced paddlers and parents acting as look-outs saw them safely run the lower Orchy. Despite heavy rain the previous day, the river was relatively low. However, this offered the group the opportunity to experience a “seal launch” down a rock face; a descent of a waterfall, in this case a weir and some gentle rapids.

On the lower, calm section of the river, the opportunity was taken to practice capsizing and being rescued using a throw line.
A large number of photographs were taken, some of which are available on the web site.

In all, a very enjoyable day – except for the midges!!
