On 24 September 8 rowers made their way to Maidens for the 2022 Exciseman’s Chase. The Exciseman’s Chase is a race from Maidens to Gas House Bay near Culzean Castle and back. This is a relay event with half the rowers doing the outward leg and the remainder doing the inward leg. Each leg is around 5km long. The weather was glorious!
The 8 rowers from Royal West were Ian Clark, Bob Cross, Lucy Dorrain, Trish Halford-Litchfield, Joe Heffernan, Mat Henderson, Clare Rainbow and David Ralston. Four of these rowers joined the Royal West this year.
The Royal West time for the Exciseman’s chase was 1 hour 26 Minutes. The winning time was 1 hour 3 minutes.
In the afternoon there was a small single leg race in which Ian, Trish, Mat, David and Clare competed. Their time in this event was 33 minutes 10 seconds. The winning time in this event was 24 minutes 49 seconds.
Rowing has enjoyed significant growth and success this season. Many new Members have joined to participate in races, training, and evening rowing. There are now 51 people in the Rowing WhatsApp Group.
