Mingulay Boat Song

Mingulay_village

The Mingulay Boat Song has a special place in the hearts of the Members of the Royal West.  From around the early 1960’s it has been much sung around the Club.

The words of the version we sing are shown below.

Chorus
Heel yo ho, boys, let her go, boys
Swing her head round and all together
Heel yo ho, boys, let her go, boys
Sailing homeward to Mingulay

What care we though white the minch is
What care we for wind or weather
Swing her head round, every inch is
Sailing homeward to Mingulay

Chorus
When the wind is wild with shouting
And the waves mount ever higher
Anxious eyes turn ever seaward
To see us home, boys, to Mingulay

Chorus
Wives are waiting by the harbour
They’ve been waiting since break of day-o
Swing her head round, and we’ll anchor
As the sun sets on Mingulay

Chorus
