“Old Clyde Pullers” by Tom Mackay ****UPDATE****

Tom has spent the last couple of years trawling various archives to compile a history of Rowing Clubs in Inverclyde stretching back to the 1850′s. This has also spawned information on Burgh Regattas as well as the merging of amateur and professional rowing in Scotland. The book has a foreword by Provost Robert Moran and contributions from multiple sources throughout the district and beyond. It is a social history of this area told from the perspective of a community who not only depended on the Clyde for work but also for recreation.

We took delivery of the book today from the printers. The launch event is planned for 19:30hrs on Friday 11th December in the clubhouse. Tom will also be in the Tesco Greenock on 14th December and Port Glasgow on 15th December selling copies to the general public.

New range of Club active sportswear should be launched on Friday 11th December as well. A small stock will be available for inspection and sale on that night. Order taken that night should be ready pre-Christmas.

Tom and the various parties who have contributed time and effort to getting the book to this stage have done so for free. All profits from the sale of the book will go directly to the Club’s development fund, intended to improve the sporting & changing facilities of the clubhouse. The cost of the book will be £9.99. If you need it posted there will be a £2.50 charge for this to UK addresses.

Anyone who has not already done so can register their interest in reserving a copy of the book by dropping me an email at secretary@rwsabc.com . Please title the email “Old Clyde Pullers”. We will then set aside a copy for you to collect and pay for from the clubhouse. We may even ask the author to sign the copies that are reserved.
