Passing of Life Member

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of life member Gordon McKenzie.

Gordon was a member of RWSABC for 53 years and throughout this time gave great service to the club. He served for long periods on the committee as subscriptions convener, secretary and Vice President. He had served on the VP Council.

He was also well known for his musical talents. For many years Gordon sang with Midge Miller organising various concerts and jazz nights and attracting many well-known bands to the club. All who heard him sing and play guitar remember the gentle style of playing and his beautiful melodic voice. He continued playing and singing and never lost his musical ability.

In addition to all this Gordon was a talented rower. He took part in many rows in Whiteforeland, including lochs Lomond, Tay, Awe, Erin, Eck, Long, and Fyne. He then moved further afield to rows on the lake district and the Thames on three occasions, moving from the navigable start of the Thames right down to Tower Bridge. He and the crew even rowed in Denmark where they rowed from Faborg Roklub on Funen to Drejo then to Marstal Roklub on Aero and finally to Rudkobing on Langland. All Baltic islands.

Gordon will be greatly missed and we send our condolences to Helen and the family.

Funeral details will be posted when they are available.
