Royal West took the trip down to south beach in Troon on Saturday, competitors were Troon, Firth of Clyde, Carrick and Elaine Nelson and crew over from the Antrim coast promoting their Dalriada festival in July. Another year of fantastic weather complemented a relaxed and stress free regatta on the perfect sands of south beach, its easy to forget this is just on our doorstep down the coast, Royal West took victories in all categories except the mens 50+and Mixed 50+ both Royal West crews took second place respectively against Carrick, the organisers added to the event with a last race with a rest of the world crew made up of one rower from each club in Troons first Skiff against the Antrim crew competing in Troon’s second boat, the Antrim crew was coxed by our own Adam Graham while the rest of the world had Alex Paterson from Royal West at stroke, this was a very close race, on the way to the fist mark one of the Antrim crew caught a crab and ended in the bottom of the boat, this gave the opposing crew few boat lengths advantage into the starboard turn for the rest of the world to take a lead, unfortunately our advantage was given away as the rower at 3 broke a kabe in the rest of the word boat, a spare was quickly put into place but any advantage was lost, it was then an exhausting and outright sprint for the last 500 yards with the rest of the world boat just edging the win, a fantastic day on the beach with the regatta trophy now in the bar, congratulations to Troon on another successful regatta.
