RWSABC Kayakers in the Oban Sea Kayak Race 2022

Racers muster at the start of the Race

Colin and Gerry perform well at Oban

Congratulation to Colin Campbell and Gerry Malone who performed well in the prestigious Oban Sea Kayak Race on Sunday 28th August 2022. The race was over a 20k course around the island of Kererra.

Colin took 3rd place in the sea kayak category in a time of 1 hour 59 minutes 59 seconds. The race officer joked that Colin dipped his chest to make sure he came in under two hours.

Gerry finished 5th in a time of 2 hours 07 minutes 33 seconds. Gerry’s performance was particularly impressive given he only started kayaking last year and this was his first kayak race.

Colin will be competing again on 10th September in a race from Largs around Cumbrae and would like to encourage other paddlers from our club to take part. Gerry cannot compete at Cumbrae as he will be in Ireland for an open water swimming race around an island near Kinsale.

Anyone interested in sea kayak racing should speak to Colin.
