Starting on New Year’s Day in 2016 the Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club (RWSABC) has organised a New Year’s Day Dip and Swim. Hopefully this event will happen in 2022 having missed 2021 because of COVID restrictions. This event may still have to be cancelled if the organisers judge that it cannot be held with acceptable risk.
If the event must be cancelled for any reason, an announcement will be posted on the Royal West website (www.rwsabc.co.uk) by 11am on New Year’s Day.
This event is open to the public. We aim to enter the water at 2:00pm from the Royal West beach. We are not opening the changing rooms so you should arrive ready to swim and expect to leave immediately after your swim to return home.
You should be a competent swimmer to participate in this event. You should also confirm with your doctor that you can participate if you if you have an underlying health condition. A responsible adult should accompany and swim with anyone under the age of 16 who is participating in this New Year’s Day Dip and Swim.
Due to the ongoing COVID concerns all participants should take a lateral flow test on New Year’s Day and only attend if the test result is negative. While participating in this event everyone should practice social distancing of at least 2m between households. All participants will be expected to provide contact details for the purposes of Test and Protect.
It is recommended that you bring the following:
- Swim costume or wetsuit
- Bath robe or similar to wear before and after your swim
- Swim cap or woolly hat to swim in
- Flip flops or sandals for walking to and from the sandy beach
- A towel to dry off with after your swim
- Plenty of warms clothes to change into after your swim
